Frequently Asked Questions
Who do you treat?
I treat adults & older adolescents with all psychiatric issues ranging from depression, low self-esteem, anxiety, feelings of inadequacy, mood disturbances, substance abuse, sleeping difficulties, attention problems, relationship issues & work stress.
Do you offer a free consultation?
A no-charge 5-10 minute telephone consultation can be arranged to answer questions & determine if I am an appropriate option for your treatment. Please note an email summary of your situation is greatly appreciated.
What can I expect in my first session?
Before our first session, please download & fill out the New Patient Packet & the Financial Agreement. The first treatment session will last about 60 minutes. I will focus on gathering a thorough history, understanding your reason for seeking treatment, & answering any questions. Upon completion of the evaluation, I will present my thoughts & treatment recommendations. On some occasions this may include a referral to another treatment setting. Medication prescriptions are not always written during the first session. If you arrive early, there is a seating area near the gardens in the middle of the building. Please call me if you get lost or are running late.
How long is each subsequent session?
Follow-up sessions are typically 30-45 minutes in length for both medication management & psychotherapy.
How frequently will I be seen?
Psychotherapy sessions are weekly to every other week. Medication management is monthly or every two to three months but may be more frequent while starting or changing medications.
Controlled substance prescriptions such as benzodiazepines, stimulants or Suboxone require in-office assessments for a maximum of a month supply.
You indicate that you prescribe medication & therapy. Why is this important?
Many psychiatric issues benefit greatly with both medication & therapy. My experience in both areas allows me to address the whole potential clinical problem. Medications can provide an immediate relief while we explore your situation further through therapy.
I'm already seeing a therapist. Why should I see you?
I will collaborate with your therapist in providing further assessment & ongoing medication management while you continue to see your regular therapist. Building a treatment team can be more effective in achieving your goals in treatment.
What are your fees & do you take insurance?
My fees are competitive with other local psychiatrists. The initial consultation is $500 (Short Notice Consultation within 24 Hours is an extra $200) and follow-up sessions are a flat rate of $350. I do not participate in any insurance plans & am considered an out-of-network provider. Patients pay me directly for their treatment at the time of each visit or prepaid online with Square . I accept cash, Venmo/Square Cash & credit cards including FSA/HSA cards.
Attached is a worksheet with questions to ask your insurance about your out-of-network coverage: Out-of-Network Worksheet
Why don't you take insurance?
By not accepting insurance, I am able to provide a higher level of care that many patients appreciate. This policy allows me to see patients for longer & more frequent sessions with better availability & significantly less wait times. It also protects your privacy to the highest possible degree & allows greater flexibility in developing a plan of treatment.
What if I miss an appointment?
I maintain a 48 hour cancellation policy. Missed visits or late cancellations will be charged the full session fee.
